I probably should've written this sooner, but its been a very difficult weekend.

My roommate and I got a call Thursday night from a neighbour... On his way home around rush hour on Monday October 6th, he saw Morgana hit by a car. She was hit by one of those assholes who got frustrated with traffic and decided to cut into the parking "lane" and speed for half a block only to have to re-merge. Morgana, who was used to crossing the busy street next to our appartment, was not used to the heavy traffic & construction of the last few weeks, and certainly not expecting some asshole to Not obey traffic rules, tried to cross (probably heard either my roommie or I calling as we'd just got home), and was hit. Mercily, she was hit directly in the head, and didn't suffer. The neighbour, who has cats of his own, went into the street to recover her before she could be hit again, and laid her at the side of the street.

She was a wonderful cat, very loving and affectionate, highly mischievous and intelligent, and she will be missed dearly by all whose lives she touched. She is survived by her sister, Mordred (who remained an indoor cat), still living with my last roommate.

I will be holding a memorial for her this weekend with a few friends. Its been suggested I have a small one online as well, but its likely that will result in a lot of tears on my part. :) Let me know what you guys think tonight... I will be in, and doing my best to think of other things.... Mark has been very understanding, as he is also a cat-lover and has gone through a similar experiene.

Linkin...

So before I get this epic blog finished, I wanted to post a few things!

For those of you who are Canucks who want to see Harper repeatedly raped with a giant cement & gravel dildo (or at least kept out of Parliamentary control for the next 4 years)... There's a wonderful site on Facebook to organize Vote-swapping: Trading the vote you WANT to make for one that will make a difference in Your riding... and allowing someone else to do the same!
Check it out: The Anti-Harper Canadian Vote-Swap!

And on a slightly less political note... One of my current dreams is to get in on the projects to make Brain-Game interfaces (especially made for the handicapped)... and there are currently two major companies working on them!

Vegas Adventure Part 1

Even though its been a week since we landed in Vegas, I still can'l believe its over! I've spent so much time this week collecting photos & videos from the last days of the Start Trek Experience...

But I'm getting ahead of myself. Best way to tell the story of an adventure is to start at the beginning...

Eleven years ago, I first saw an ad for the Star Trek Experience on a rented movie and decided I HAD to go. So when I found out earlier this summer that it was closing... lets just say, it was Disney World all over again: another major disappointment. The falling through of Kate s plane tickets didn't help... and my disappointment was magnified greatly by another group of friends stealing my idea and going..

So when Kate came into my room a week before the closing weekend - when I was PMSing hardcore - and brought up the trip that I had become resigned to not be going on... Lets just say I was not prepared to be having that kind of conversation on cam!

***

Stardate -314340.3346994535; Friday August 29

the week leading up to our departure was full of errands and organization. I lost track of all the forms I filled out and all the IDs I got! Friday homing I was so stressed I didn't think through my plans... so I was so late picking up the rental car, all that was left was a black Dodge Charger (the most phallic car ever made!). Not only that, but the traffic to and from the airport was so bad I ended up an hour late to pick up my passport! I had to beg at the back door of the government office for them to give it to me! I was so relieved to have passport in hand, I barely noticed that I logged in an hour late!

Kate and I left town in the penis car shortly after our shifts, stopping briefly for last minute forgotten items and munchies. After an hour long wait at the border (flirting our way across), we decided to stop at the convenience store right after the border.

Our adventure truly started the moment we walked in that door... While we were expecting something a little more along the lines of a convenience store - with food and necessities - the sheer amount of Junk this place had... It was a mix of a garage sale, an antique's auction, a novelty shop... with some food and snacks thrown in almost as an afterthought!

I spotted a gas mask lying almost forgotten in a corner, and Kate immediately was drawn to it! She astutely noticed that although it was in the corner with the items priced from $200-$500... it had no label! The guy in charge for the night didn't seem to know much about what it was she was holding... as the price he quoted us was $20! A mint condition, WWI gas mask in the original box w/ instructions... we practically RAN out of there after she paid the man with our find!

And it was on that highly portentive note, that our FREE VEGAS Adventure began!

***
Roughly 3 hours later, we pulled into the Airport Economy Parking lot. I crawled into the back seat only to discover... we had forgotten blankets and pillows... and all of our wardrobe was suited more to a hot desert climate than that of cool northern NY. A shivery 3 hours later, with the sun barely peeking over the horizon, and planes already in the air, we got up to begin the second leg of our trip.

(more to come... check back in a few hours!)

Whatever Happens in Vegas...

Ever since I saw the ad for it on the previews for some Star Trek movie ten years ago, I've wanted to go to the Star Trek Experience in Vegas. And when I found out this summer that it was closing after Labour Day weekend... I REALLY wanted to go. I never thought I would make it though, being the broke student I eternally am. I never got to go to Disney as a kid, and I figured it would be just another one of those things...

Now first, Kate Anson got my hopes up with the possibility of free plane tickets through a friend... When that fell through, it was disappointing, but I was okay with it. I mentioned my idea to a friend, and next thing I knew, there were a bunch of people going en masse! The irony did nothing to sweeten the disappointment... I was jealous.

So when Kate again started talking about going to Vegas... I wasn't ready to handle the disappointment again, and denied any possibility of miracles happening.

But they did.

Gods Bless Kate and her persistence (and vast network of contacts)! Kate called her friend again, and he came through with standby plane tickets for the weekend! But Kate didn't stop there! She found someone willing to cover my passport fees (thank you G!). And then someone owed her a favour who had a contact at the Hilton... getting us rooms at the Exclusive Resort section (details to come) of the Hilton for dirt cheap. And on top of it *crosses fingers* if another contact comes through, we might even make it to another show I've been dying to see!

Of course there IS one drawback. The Airline operates within the states only. So we will have to be renting a car to get to get to an American airport first! As Kate is Absolutely convinced that she can MAKE this HAPPEN (and she has a habit of succeeding), she's convinced our common ex to cover the cost of the rental... and so this is still ending up an almost-free trip to VEGAS!

This is The Secret at work. I'm visualizing with all my darned might! Poolside suntanning and excessive Geekiness here I COME!!!

Holed up with the Flu! (Or why I should stop making out with so many LCN Girls!)

Nothing worse than being holed up at home on the couch for several days with a flu. Its finally Sunny out... and I'm hiding from the light in my darkened bedroom playing NWN2 from bed. I Could get up and move to the couch and the TV... but that would require much too much effort. At least that evil exhaustion from the other night has abated somewhat... I can masturbate to orgasm WITHOUT almost passing out afterwards! Yay! ...cause its such a good way to pass the time!...

Ended up missing school yesterday, and Sunday my little red friend came for a visit so I was on the couch and unable to get up at ALL without getting dizzy and having to sit down fast. Today well... not even my magic nosespray AND DayQuil have been able to keep up with my nose (Cause there's nothing more attractive than a bright red nose and the sniffles ;p )... So I called up work, and spoke to Keds. Apparantly a bunch of us Gals have been sick with this flu. It seems all that naughtiness with the other girls exposed me to bugs I couldn't beat!

See you all on Friday!

Schedule Confusion!

Moew.

You know I hate missing shifts... all those wasted orgasms and all... But yesterday was bad. This silly girl managed to mess up her birth control patch... and my hormones decided to punish me with some hardcore PMS. Suffice it to say, I was in no condition to be camming!

And Dear Marc, absent-minded Marc... forgot to change my online schedule yesterday. I had asked Ava for a Saturday instead of a Sunday shift if possible, and Marc was nice enough to switch me when I called yesterday... So my online schedule still had me on as on Sunday instead of Sat. :P

And today, that lovely flu everyone is getting hit me. :P I will be in nevertheless however (I LOVE DayQuil!) as my schedule for the weekend has become confusing enough as it is!

Speaking of cuming... I had a nightmare last night of trying to masturbate, despite my mother's continual interruptions (don't ask)... and as a result I just can't seem to masturbate Enough today! I mean, WTF? ... and I though I was horny all the time...

Knitting to help Quit Smoking?

I came across a really interesting blog post... Marcy in particular should take a look at this! It has links to articles talking about using Knitting to help quit smoking!
Knit to Quit

... And because I've been getting a lot of questions from various LCN girlz about HOW to go about knitting... The site I found that gives explicit instructions on how to do everything related to knitting!
HowStuffWorks Knitting

And the best ever site for exchanging knitting patterns (there is a waiting list, but you get an invite within a week)

.... and now back to paying attention in my neuro of Drug Addiction course!...

School-Beaurocracy Mess

Yes, I called it a mess.

One week later, and I still hadn't heard any news. Tomorrow is the deadline for changing courses... and I haven't been opened yet for my learning course. And I had been promised that I'd receive an email a week ago for the honours application.

So today I swung by the Psychology office. I've left an extended message with Prof Bunny (name changed to protect the innocent-ish) and I'm gonna go by her office after my first round of classes. *crosses fingers*

But while I was in the office, I saw a folder with the prof's name who'd interviewed me for honours. The Psych secretary (who is a sweetheart, BTW; they're not ALL assholes) was nice enough to check to see if my name was in there.... Sure enough *drumroll please* I've been officially APPROVED for Honours! ... it just hasn't been entered in the system yet.

*does the happy-Honour-Student dance*

... and now I just have to get up the courage to actually talk to the professor again... to see if he can squeeze me into his lab! Why the Hell do I have to get shy again Now?....

----

In the mean time, I've got more readings to do than you can shake a stick at. How is 90 pages in 2 days fair? Especially with TWO quizzes next week? At least the course is only going to be reading-heavy till the end of January. Which is a good thing, cause when Spring Break comes along.... I'm gonna need some serious naughtiness to make up for all this work!

School's IN!

The first week of school has been by far my most interesting first-week ever! I had registered for some very interesting courses for the most part (Neuro of Perception, Neuro of Drug Dependence, Cognition). There was however one course, Motivation and Emotion, that had sounded interesting in May... 15 minutes in that class dissuaded me from That notion.

Now I've been reading Eric Kandel's autobiography since Mom gave it to me as a birthday present last June. And whereas I had thought that anything to do with Learning was a bore (i.e. Pavlovian conditioning), I discovered that approaching the subject from a purely neuronal level was brilliantly fascinating! Before this, my interest in neuroscience was mostly based on Linguistics and Endocannabinoids (eCB). Once getting through the first few chapters I realized that Memory, not Language, was the key to distilling the neural code. So for the last few months I've been stuck between those yummy eCBs and memory as possible foci for research. It wasn't until I found out that Prions maintain long-term memory... that I got hooked.

...And then I realized that the course "The Neurobiology of Learning and Memory" was still open for this semester... and was at the same time slot for that Motivation course. Of course, I still haven't taken the basic Learning course (*snore*)... so I was missing a prerequisite.

I may have changed the way I present myself to the world, but I'm still at heart the shyest of girls. So the idea of going and *gasp* Talking to people about getting past this lack of prerequisite... lets just say I was willing to ignore my recent revelation of what to study completely to avoid talking to people.

And then I got to that Motivation class. The prof is Francophone from Quebec... and though he seemed really nice... he spoke in halting English. Not the easiest thing to listen to. And then, he mentioned being a Clinical Psychologist and how his passion was for the clinical... My hopes for the course were laid on the possibility of discussing the Mesocorticolimbic Dopaminergic Pathway (i.e. the reward pathway)... and when I saw he had a pitiful 2 classes devoted to "Motivation and the Brain"... *sighs* I have to admit, I fled the classroom!

So I went to the Psychology office hoping to get permission to take the neuro of Learning class despite my lack of a prerequisite. I ended up being directed to the office of someone... and waited in line even to talk to her. She had papers piled up all over her desk, and looked slightly flustered. When I asked her if it would be possible to get into the class, she said flat out "NO". She said the prof could do nothing, and that hers' was the last word that I couldn't get in. When I objected, saying that half the class in my Neuro of Perception class hadn't taken the basic prerequisite, she brushed me off as if I were making it up. I left that class FURIOUS. 20 minutes later however, I ran into someone who had been in that lineup, and she revealed a very interesting piece of information. This lady was replacing someone who was sick... who was the replacement of the person who had been in charge of things last year.

This made this little shy girl very angry. How DARE she tell me I couldn't get into the class because I hadn't taken the prereq? How DARE she have spoken to me in the tone she did, when she's just a Freakin replacement?

So this shy girl went to the end of the Neuro of Learning class and, shaking like a leaf, approached the prof to explain things. He was very nice, and reassuring. Learning I apparently had nothing to do with his course. And it didn't make a f*ing difference whether or not I took it first. Furthermore, when I mentioned that I'd been reading Kandel's biography as light reading, I got a Very raised eyebrow. So he promised he'd email the person in charge (the lady who'd been so rude to me earlier), and told me to start coming to class from now on.

----

And then there was the interview for honours. My second appointment was yesterday at 2pm. The first one got canceled due to the prof being sick. And despite my double checking the appointment before Xmas, they still managed to lose the appointment. So instead of spending 30 minutes discussing my future with him... I ended up spending almost 2 hours at school. Cause of course, since my appointment got lost, he didn't have any of my info and I had to run around to get a copy of my transcript. *sighs* My marks are apparently fine, and as soon as he verifies that I still have more than 30 credits left to complete, I should get a confirmation email from him. *crosses fingers* Lets just hope my info doesn't get lost AGAIN....

So as soon as I get those 2 confirmation emails... I think I'm gonna take that learning prof aside and ask if he's got any work for me to do in his lab. I Really need to start working in a lab ASAP: I've got a Research course I need to do this summer, and I need to have some idea for my Honours Thesis....

Isn't it a good thing that Neuroscience turns me on as much as it does!!!
